Pistols and Petticoats
Year:
2012
The second of the Creative Collaboration series, Pistols and Petticoats: Shadows of Sarah Emma Edmonds follows the many disguised lives of one of the only female Civil War soldiers, Sarah Emma Edmonds. Born in Magaguaduvic, New Brunswick in 1841, Sarah escaped a rocky upbringing and moved to the States, where, disguised as a male soldier, she became one of the Union’s most successful spies. A ‘frank and fearless’ woman, Sarah Emma Edmonds constantly evaded detection through a series of extreme measures. Her story is told from the perspective of six different local storytellers through music, movement, shadows and gunfire.
