2012

Cold Woman: New Brunswick’s Murderess is a theatrical production that follows the shadowy deeds of one of New Brunswick’s most famous serial killers, Sophia Hamilton. Operating out of her tavern in Woodstock in the early 1800’s, Hamilton and her gang of organized criminals ‘allegedly’ ambushed, robbed and murdered guests who spent the night. Their exploits at the time were seen as “atrocious, cold blooded, cruel and daring”, and Sophia herself was rumored to have personally poisoned several of her male acquaintances to satisfy her own greed and avarice. While today there exists very little evidence of her crimes, the notoriety of this ‘female serial killer’ at the time was remarkable.

The third in our Creative Collaboration series, Sophia’s story is told from the perspective of six different local storytellers through songs, swordplay and special effects. Each writer's world of Sophia Hamilton is as unique as the crimes she committed.
